Many artists (actors, painters, classical, jazz, rock and pop musicians, writers, dancers…) were praying for spiritual renewal in the arts. We recieved reports about prayer gatherings in the following countries: AUSTRA, BRAZIL, BULGARIA, CANADA, FINLAND, FRANCE, GERMANY, HUNGARY, INDONESIA, LATVIA, LITHUANIA, MEXICO, MONGOLIA, NETHERLANDS, PHILIPPINES, RUSSIA, SWITZERLAND, USA. Artists in FRANCE (within the “Psalmodia” music schools) started a 7 day prayer chain. In LATVIA the event was mentioned by the national broadcast program – and 200 artists came to a big worship and prayer evening in Riga (2003). On the PHILIPPINES artists sent each other text messages and had a wonderful gathering in Manila. In the USA students gathered on Monday morning on campuses. Many church services around the world had a special intercession time for our requests.

I have been out since the crack of dawn in an effort to see if somehow we can sort the situation out with the Musica Spei (Crescendo ensemble in Moscow) visas for next week's trip to visit and encourage supporters in the UK. Let me give you a summary of the situation:

Last week I phoned the visa centre and was told that Anya's docs were ready for collection. We all rejoiced, though some felt doubtful since they were taking an inrodinate amount of time looking at Andrei's application and Marianna's docs were only given in on 17th March!

Yesterday I phoned the embassy in order to speak to someone who could speak in detail about the outstanding applications and advise me about when we might expect an answer bearing in mind that the trip is almost upon us. The result was that Marianna and Andrei's docs are now being looked at by the same person and that I might expect a decision on Monday 31st March.

During our conversation I mentioned that Anya (who had been awarded her visa already) is also a part of the group (though this was indicated in each of their applicaitons). On this she informed me that just because Anya's docs were ready for collection does NOT mean that she has been given a visa and in fact she could inform me that Anya had been refused.

So here's the status: Anya, our cellist will humnaly speaking be unable to come for the trip putting our concerts in jeopardy. We hope to know about Marianna and Andrei by Monday. I leave for the UK in Tuesday and they are due to leave on Wednesday. To add insult to injury, we all have cheap tickets which are not refundable including a full adult ticket for the cello.

Is our God big? He sure is! Please join me in praying that we would end this emotional switchback closer to Him and more aware of his presence and power than ever before

Thanks for standing in the gap!

Why these Prayer Days?

  • The arts in our societies are very important! Many people are searching the arts not only for entertainment and inspiration but also for answers to life’s questions. Art is influencing our minds and therefore our behaviour. What a chance for Christian artists to point out the hope of the gospel either through their works – in a professional, not kitschy way! - and in conversations and interviews. Many positive responses to “The Passion” have shown that people can be reached with the Christian message through the arts. (The movie has just been nominated for most popular film of 2004!) Christian artists need prayer because they are ambassadors of God in this world even when creating art works without a specific “Christian” content. And let’s pray for non-Christian artists, too. That they would be receptive to God’s love and the Gospel in spite of many painful misunderstandings between the art world and the church.
